First Visit
This will last up to 1 hour. During this time a full medical history will be taken, followed by a comprehensive physical examination.
After diagnosing your complaint, your chiropractor will clearly explain the examination findings to you and will also explain the proposed treatment plan. Usually treatment will begin on the first visit.
Subsequent treatments last 20 minutes.
If X-rays and/or MRI scans are required, these can be referred for privately, or via your GP.
If your chiropractor feels that chiropractic treatment is not suitable for your complaint, you will be referred to your GP or to a suitable specialist.

Treatment
Treatment is on an individual, one-to-one basis. It will usually be offered at the first visit, and often involves manipulation of the spine or extremity joints.
A wide range of manipulation techniques are used, and these improve the function of the joints, relieving pain. Deep tissue techniques are also used on tight muscles or those that are in spasm.
Most conditions have a considerable amount of both joint and muscle involvement. Targeting and treating both these areas will therefore obtain better results in a quicker time than if you solely treat one or the other.
Dry Needling (Acupuncture)
Dry needling is a western form of acupuncture. It is based on anatomy and physiology, whereas Chinese acupuncture is based on meridian energy channels. There is growing evidence in support of its effectiveness in relieving pain and releasing tight or spasmed muscles.
Both forms of acupuncture are performed using the same type of sterile, disposable needles. These needles are much finer than those normally used in injections, and are not generally painful. A tingling sensation or a mild ache in the area around the needle may be felt when the needle is stimulated.
Dry needling is utilised in this clinic as an addition to chiropractic treatment. We certainly do not use it with every patient, but your chiropractor will explain if they feel it is appropriate for your condition.
How can I help myself?
Chiropractors support the treatment they offer with advice on suitable stretches, exercises, improvements to posture, as well as changes that could be made to the work environment. This is to help in managing the condition and preventing a reoccurrence of the problem. The better you are at doing home exercises the more benefit you are likely to get from treatment.
